Zero Liquid Discharge

The MOLECULAR™ Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system is an advanced wastewater treatment solution that combines membrane concentration and evaporation crystallization technologies. It effectively treats industrial wastewater to achieve zero discharge, minimize waste, and recover valuable resources.

Features of Our ZLD Wastewater Systems

Comprehensive Process

The system typically involves a treatment process including pretreatment, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, and a reverse osmosis concentrate reuse system.

Membrane Technology

The system utilizes a combination of membrane technologies, including microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), and reverse osmosis (RO). This multi-stage process effectively removes suspended solids, colloids, and organic matter.

MVR Evaporator

The system incorporates a Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) Evaporator, which uses a compressor to recompress the secondary steam generated during evaporation. This technology is highly energy-efficient and allows for operation at low temperatures and pressures.

Multi-Effect Evaporator

Our systems also feature a multi-effect evaporator, which uses the secondary steam from one effect as the heat source for the next. This process achieves significant energy savings and is suitable for high-salinity wastewater.

Advantages of Our Zero Liquid Discharge Solutions

  • Significant Energy Savings: The multi-effect evaporator reuses the latent heat of secondary steam, which significantly reduces energy consumption. This can result in over 30% energy savings compared to conventional evaporators.

  • Resource Recovery: The system not only treats wastewater but also allows for the recovery of valuable substances, such as proteins, sugars, and salts, from the concentrated liquid.

  • Compact and Durable: The MVR evaporator has a compact structure, stable operation, and a high degree of automation. The system is built with durable materials, with a normal lifespan of 1.5 to 2 years, and some can last for more than 5 years.

  • High Efficiency: The multi-effect evaporator has a high heat transfer efficiency and can process large amounts of wastewater. It can handle wastewater with a COD value over 10,000 ppm and is suitable for treating high-salinity and difficult-to-treat wastewater.

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Treatment Process

This advanced process achieves near-total water recovery and waste minimization through integrated membrane technologies.

  1. Pretreatment: Production wastewater first undergoes primary purification through a physical and chemical system, followed by a biochemical system for organic matter degradation.

  2. Membrane Filtration: Treated water is stored in a middle pool before entering an UF system (Ultrafiltration) for fine solid removal. Filtered water is collected in an ultrafiltration water production tank.

  3. Advanced Reverse Osmosis: Water undergoes two-stage RO treatment:

    • Roll-type RO system for primary concentration, producing RO concentrate and reusable permeate.

    • DTRO system (Disc Tube Reverse Osmosis) for further concentration of RO brine, generating DTRO clear liquid (recovered water) and highly concentrated DTRO concentrated water.

  4. Concentrate Management & Water Reuse: DTRO clear liquid is stored in a clear water pool for reuse. The final DTRO concentrated water (as residue) is sent to evaporation/crystallization (implied), achieving zero liquid discharge. The system includes a roll-type RO night cleaning cycle for maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system combines membrane separation technology and evaporation crystallization technology to treat industrial wastewater, achieving zero discharge and resource recovery.

The multi-effect evaporator operates by reusing the secondary steam from one effect as the heat source for the next. This process, known as energy cascade utilization, results in significant energy savings.

The MVR evaporator, or Mechanical Vapor Recompression Evaporator, uses a compressor to recompress secondary steam. This allows the system to operate at low temperatures and pressures, making it highly energy-efficient.

Yes. In addition to achieving zero discharge, the system can be used to recover valuable substances like sugars, proteins, and salts from the concentrated liquid.

This ZLD wastewater treatment system is suitable for treating a wide range of wastewater, including high-salinity wastewater, high-concentration wastewater, and industrial wastewater from food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries.
